Band Pimping: World/Inferno Friendship Society (Originally published November 10, 2009)

Punk rock and accordions.  Those aren’t things you usually hear in the same sentence.  You wouldn’t expect them to work, and under normal circumstances they wouldn’t.  But you haven’t heard the World/Inferno Friendship Society, to whom normal circumstances do not apply.

This band is so awesome.  Band leader and singer, Jack Terricloth (call me crazy, but I’m going to venture a guess that it’s his stage name), is known for his highly articulate lyrics about violence, anarchy, lack of sun exposure, and…  cabaret.  Their live show feels like you’re hanging out with a bunch of friends, who just happen to walk around swigging from bottles of wine regaling each other with stories about riots.

Their musical style is a junkyard mashup of jazz, blues, rockabilly, and Springsteenesque anthems.  It’s catchy with great hooks, and just a ton of fun.  I’m posting the first song I heard by them in the hope that it gets them some more exposure.  Enjoy the communal live vibe and oddly sweet lyrics.
